Most of the issues were with the 150-175 hp models... I don't think they had many with the big block stuff, but could be wrong...
2002 should be OK as Bombardier had taken over production by then. My 2002 225 HO has been great .
The Bomb DFI motors have a good reputation here although some of us have had problems - my 04 lost a cylinder 18 months ago (244 hrs) due to a lean injector (the dealer's opinion) and three weeks ago (310 hrs) a reed stop broke off and trashed a cylinder again. Since I enjoy rebuilding them myself I can live with it but it would get awful expensive at 100/hr labor. Point is they are not immune to problems, like any 2 stroke.
as Nola said, ANY MOTOR CAN BREAK, even a Evil'rude......get a Psi check, leak down, have a certified Di Tech check the codes etc....thats a Very Very Strong 3.3liter, 247hp at the prop,

I use mine exclusively in the saltwater marsh in SE Louisiana - granted it's not ocean water, it is brackish, but other than sacrificial anodes degrading more quickly I haven't had any corrosion problems. I make a point of spraying the gearcase and the trim/tilt mechanics with Bomb. anticorrosion spray and I always flush the motor for 5-10 mins (not running) after a trip, motor pretty much looks like new (6 yrs).
