    Hey Seahorse...

My buddy has a 1977 - 1979 Johnson/Evinrude 150 motor. He lost the power trim over the weekend. The trim motor is running, but the unit won't go up or down. It has plenty of fluid. So I'm guessing the hydraulics are shot. Is it possible to remove the transom bracket assembly with everything on it and replace it with everything from a 1993 Johnson/Evinrude? Looking at the two set ups, they look like they may be compatible. But before tearing into it, I'd like to know if it's possible..

IN 1991 OMC introduced the FasTrak trim unit which is not interchangeable, so your answer depends on specific model number motors.

If the newer trim unit is fastened by 6 bolts, 3 on each stern bracket, then it should fit. If its held only by about 1" diameter pins on top and bottom, then it won't.

Thanks. I'll take a look at it on my way home. I have 3 different ones in the garage. 1991, 1993 and 1996. I'll take a look at his 197? and see if I can help him out.. Sorry I don't have the model # handy.
