    Qualified

Here is an email that I received yesterday from a fellow in Indiana:

I have a two day tournament on the 4th and 5th of October to fish on Barkely/Kentucky lake. If I come down there and hire you do you feel like you are qualified enough to show me where to fish and with what to put enough fish in the boat to take a descent limit to the weigh-in each day? I would really like to be shown some off the bank spots, humps, ledges, grass beds etc.
    Thanks, Scott

    Here was my answer:

    Scott
Qualified enough? What exactly do you mean by that? I suggest you contact another guide...make sure when you come down you ask your tournament director is Dave Stewart is qualified enough to be a bass guide.

Chill out Dave. Just sounds like he's trying to find someone he can have confidence in. I've known plenty of so-called guides that couldn't catch their zipper. Don't get your ego in a wad.

Dave, maybe you should email him back and ask for his fishing resume to see if he qualifies for your service. Tell him if he is as bad as you have heard, the good Lord himself couldn't help him put fish in the boat. After all you don't want to risk your reputation on a hopeless cause!

Wow Dave...that's pretty tacky on that guy's part. Seems like all he would've had to do is ask around a bit. That's what I did before I set that date up last April. Everyone I talked to said "Dave is the man!" Besides, what guide is going to respond to his question..."no I'm not qualified."

You mean...you don't guarantee your clients will weigh in a decent sack?

I don't think he posted this here for his ego... Its more for our entertainment.

Refering to the writer of the email; Its just a fact, some people are just plain stupid. If you are worried about getting your money's worth do a little research... don't insult a guys profession.

WOW, and I though Dave would help me with the FOM Regional's. I need 20lbs a day so I can WIN.

    Dave,

You know I'm just kidding. You can show him where to fish, what to use, how to use it, and if the fish are there, he still may not be able to catch them.

    Re: Qualified (Slow Rollin)

It's funny the kind of people that you have to put up with...

I used to be a guide for a goose hunting club in Illinois...at the age of 15

I put up with a lot of BS from customers at that age when they showed up and found out I was their guide...but most of them shut their mouth in amazement as soon as I started calling in geese with my own voice! Needless to say, I was tipped nicely in return I sure miss the days of good migrations and when being a hunting guide was a good way to pick up some extra dollars...dang the hot weather!

I'd say Dave, even though I've never met the guy, has A LOT of patience

The proper way to find out if a guide is worth his salt is to ask for references....which I would have gladly furnished. There are ways of talking to someone and there are ways of talking "down" to someone...and my ego doesn't take being talked "down" to very well...don't know many folks that do like to be talked down to...thankfully.

I agree, Dave. I asked the lady about you when I purchased my map.

"Dave Stewart? Thee Dave Stewart? That sidewindin', no good SOB? Yeah, I've heard of him a time or two!" (She was laughin' when she said it, of course. )

That was good enough for me, I need to book a trip with ya! Sorry, I can't remember her name, but she had absolutely nothin' bad to say about ya after that first description.

I don't have any references to send you to see if I'm qualified to hire you as a guide, but Dawn will be with us, and you don't need any references for her.

    Re: Qualified (CGWright)

Dawn would be all the reference you need... Be glad to spend a day on the water with you all...just let me know when you want to go so I can check my calendar.

That lady would either have been my wife, my ex-wife, or Rhonda at The Cabin...

Rodney: He is doing better now. He had an operation earlier this summer to remove the bad portion of his esophogus. Talked to him briefly earlier this week. Your right, he is one good fellow.

    Re: Qualified (Dave Stewart)

All I know is that Dave Stewart is a pretty good guy for telling a room full of guys how to catch them for the KYlake rally this year. Especially since we drove all the way up there from Florida. I thought at first he was going to send us on a goose chase just kidding. When he said to bring him our lake map and said he was going to mark where all the bars and humps were for us, I thought "were not going to be doing much fishing." Thanks again Dave.
