    South Barkley

Hey fellas, I'm putting in at the Linton ramp friday-monday. Don't want to run too far, but do you all have any suggestions on some places to try. Crockett branch, Pryor, Little hurricane, Linton, terrapin creek, fords, donaldson, maybe even up to Devils Elbow? Not looking for 'specific' spots, just areas to check out for a little fun fishing. Going to try to catch some of these ledge fish that a few of you have been reporting on. Heck I may even try my luck with some of those whisker fish and heat up the fryer! <--- that always goes good with some catfish, hushpuppies, and cole slaw. I'll report back when Monday roles around.

I have yet to go past donaldson since I have only been here a little bit but its got some good drops in it, if the wind doesn't blow to bad I would start in the mouths of the bays on the river ledges. Catfishing should be good too, just find the shad and you will find the cattys. Be careful down there she gets skinny quick.

Would that be the "party cove"?

If so, you may see Scott up there.

Stay out of the rock quary now. You'll see things in there that'll make you go blind. I think I'll go night fishing and sleep during all the madness this weekend.
I should be over on Barkley. I have a tourney there on the 2nd.

Down that way I would be on the river ledges at the mouths of the creeks like Kyle said.

All those bays are good thewre good buddy. There are a lot of good ledges in all of those bays, just look on your map chip and find the points and bends in the creeks. You need to look for water on top of the ledges about 6 to 10 foot deep droping off into 15 to 20 foot of water. The fish have not made it out to the river as of yet but they are on the way.

Thanks fellas for the advice. You all are spoiled by the way! I am like a little kid at Christmas time the whole week before I go down to the twins. It's one hell of a fishery. I have to spend my time on the river, t-ville, rough, nolin, or barren...not complaining but it's nice to hit the twins every once in a while. I think I have studied my map about 3 hours per day this week...(I think I could draw you the contours of South barkley from memory ) Anyway, so is the boating traffic that bad on holiday weekends? I know on those other lakes I mentioned up there it is pretty bad, but KY and Barkley are soooo BIG I couldn't see the boat traffic being even close to what I am usually used to. All's I know is I want to hurry up and get my hands stinky, my arm broke, and one hell of a roughed up thumb!!!!!!!
Everyone have a good safe weekend!

Your fishing the right place to avoid as much boat traffic as possible. That end of Barkley will have the least.

Yep your right they arent all in the creeks either, but i had four five pounders in four cast today and they werent on the river. They are scattered as usual, some in the creeks and some on the river, heck i know one guy who caught a 7 pounder out of foot of water as far back in a bay as you could get on a chatter bait.

Dave why weren't you on the water this morning instead of messing around on the BBC? Hope the new Etech isn't in the tank already.
