1999 200 HP evinrude with stainless steel prop or aluminum prop

I was told by a experienced outboard mechanic that a aluminum propeller is better than stainless steel.
When we hit a rock or dead head, the aluminum propeller would break up. Whereas the stainless steel prop would not get damaged as much, however it could bend the lower shaft and mess up the lower seals. Which could cost a lost to repair.
Aluminum may not put out the same power as the stainless, but it saves money on the lower engine part if it hits anything. The shaft would not get bend or the seals messed up as with a stainless prop.
    comments anyone.

just MHO here , but if you hit something with that aluminum wide open it will break away and your engine RPM will blow in a heartbeat . SS props have hubs in them that are made to give when striking an oblect, if you are in a high perf application ( above 50 MPH) the SS is much more forgiving than aluminum.aluminum could easily sling a blade at higher speeds. but if your running that 200 on a large pontoon , then that may be the way to go.SS props used are not too much , most aluminum props when hit are done for , that SS can be worked several time (expirince talking )

The stainless steel holds up better than the aluminum. The only way I would run an aluminum prop would be on a deep lake with no risk of hitting floating sticks and thing like that, they mess up pretty easy.

This of couse depends on your application, what type hull you are running it on etc, a little more info would help but if you are worried about running in skinny H20 with alot of debris then I'd convert to a Jet drive.

Go with the stainless either a 25" Renegade or a 24" Raker.
