    Need help removing shift rod

I'm putting my first water pump kit in my 1990 Johnson 150 & I can't get the shift rod loose to drop the lower unit. I finally got the bolt out & the shift rod seems stuck?? The bolt I removed was on the linkage cross shaft & went into what appears to be a pinch clamp. It was a major butt-pain to access & required a long 7/16 wrench & a lot of patience to remove... Could i have removed the wrong bolt or is the shift rod just stuck?

7/16" ???? The pin bolt for the shift rod has a 3/8" hex slotted head on it. You must have removed the clevis retaining bolt.

The shift rod pin comes out on the left side of the motor, very hard to see. You can remove the VRO mounting bolts to move it a little out of the way. Do not take off any hoses. A long 1/4 inch extension and a 3/8 wiggle socket is used to remove the pin. wrap electric tape around the socket so it will move but not wiggle all over the place. Shift into reverse to remove the pin, shift into forward when replacing the lower unit, with the shift rod bend facing forward, slowly shift into reverse to lower the linkage onto the shift rod. You must replace the bolt you took out without moving the part it holds on the shaft or the shifting will be off.
