Johnson 115 starter issue

J115FTLECS. Starter will sometimes not engage, i can hear it spinning but it will not always engage to flywheel. Brand new battery and I also replaced the drive gear that meshes with the flywheel. The flywheel itself looks in good condition. Any ideas? Or do I need to just replace the entire starter? Thanks in advance!

put a few drops of oil on the starter shaft,see if that frees up the bendix better so it will engage. can't hurt anything.....
