92 johnson faststrike 150 cant get over 5,000 rpm

just an update. I replaced the intake, throttle body, carborings and gaskets to try to find out why my starboard side top spark plug is washing out, and also not going over 5,000 rpm at wot. I now get 5200-5300 rpm at wot but im still getting that spark plug looking like its washed out. the inside of the piston walls looked great and all the reeds looked brand new also. I do not hear any warning horns going off and im using oil out of my tank. I have good compression in all my cylinders. The motor runs great getting on plane and seems to run better at wot. Any other areas that i can look at? I dont want to blow up the power head because of something stupid. Thanks for all the help and suggestions earlier! its a 92 150 glenc motor.

Does it look like it was steam cleaned?

just about as clean as that. I saw oil residue in the bottom of the piston walls.

Then I guess you had the starboard side head off? Unless you have a bore scope, it's pretty hard to see down there. I hate to say it but the 92's had some problems with the casting in the lost foam process and some got through inspection. You may have a cracked sleeve or cooling jacket Letting water seep in and causing the "steam clean". Need to get SH to confirm. May take a day or so, it is a Holiday weekend and we like our "Downtime". It may be nothing also. You may want to pull the head and inspect the O ring around the piston. Worse case you would need a tube of silicone and three new O rings.
