I am thinking about reducing the number of vehicles I have. Does anyone out there have a late model 4Runner? I need to know if this vehicle will pull my Triton Tx21 safely and efficiently. Please comment if you have any experience with this.

I have a 2010 4runner and I love it.
Only problem is it lacks power, I've pulled my fathers 20x3 and it did fine but it's slow off the line.
I think a 18-19ft boat would be a better fit for it.
The breaks are good and it is heavy enough to stop the boat, but going uphill it is sluggish.
It is a great everyday driver and gets 19+ mpg but I think it is underpowered for your boat.
I've got an 06 that pulls my 19 footer fine, no issues braking whatsoever. I do have the v8 which gets me to 7000 lbs towing over 5000. Unfortunately the latest 4runner model does not have the v8 option.
You're right. They only have a 4.0L V6. I would love to combine my truck and car into one SUV that will save me a little gas and pull my boat when the time arises. My Wife would probably wind up driving that dream vehicle and the 4Runner is a little smaller than some of the V8's out there. I'm probably barking up a tree.

The only reason I went 06 was to get the v8, felt like the v6 was a little short on power when I drove them. I don't think I would feel comfortable towing a full size rig with a 250....although I really don't have to worry about that anytime soon.
Also, not a huge fan of the vehicle taking towing out of the equation altogether. There is a weird "chunking" feeling when stopping and accelerating from a dead stop. Apparently it is the angle of the slip yoke that causes it, toyota is aware of the problem and won't issue a recall. I also cracked a header right after 60k...wasn't happy about that one.
So yeah I would personally go with another option!
I've got a 2008 4-Runner with the V-6 and pull my 18 1/2 foot Phoenix.....no problems at all.....love this vehicle, would not hesitate to get another one.....I get around 14-15 mpg pulling the boat....![]()

I am glad that yours is working out for you. My Tx21 is 20'-10" with a 225 and has a double axle trailer. It probably weighs more that yours.

2006 4RUNNER with the v8 pulls my 20 foot Blazer on a tandem axle trailer just as good as my F150 with a 4.6No problem with a V8 not to shure about the V6 4RUNNER, might be under power!

are you sure it is not the receiver hitch shifting? I know my Durango does that but I know that hitch pin has a little bit of play and does that every time I stop and start.

No unfortunately it's nothing to do with the hitch. Does it with the hitch out as well, definitely part of the drivetrain. Apparently it's a known problem with the V8 model.
I wish they would have a V8 option for todays 4Runner.

i had a Mid 90's Model 4Runner that had the 4 cyl engine, i pulled an 18' Bumble Bee with a GT150 , in the mountains of tenn, launched many times on Center Hill Lake, very steep ramps. No Problems, just don't expect to go to the races with the boat behind it, and your fine. Yes your V8 won't know it is there.
