Ez-Loader Trailer UGHHH! I give up! Help??

Dual axle 20' trailer Triton tr20 2001... Since I bought my boat almost 2 years ago the trailer and brakes have never worked properly,, have been using the "C-Clamp" deal to back and am tired of it. At the lake the other day my breaks locked up when I was pulling out of the water and heard a loud bang?? Sounded like the breaks releasing themselves. VERY FRUSTRATED. Everything I have read is this seems to be the norm with these trailers. What I want to do is to take the calipers off.. any thoughts? I tow with a Silverado crew cab and I believe the brakes never work anyway so instead of dealing with the issue just have no trailer brakes?? Any thoughts?

    Thanks Chris

If you cannot back up without the C-Clamps, I would suspect the brakes are working. Are you using a 5-wire plug? Have you checked to see that if there is signal at the plug when the truck is in reverse? Checked the wiring on the trailer to make sure there's not a broken wire?

What was the something that went bang?

A caliper breaking off the axle flange?

Have towed with 3 different trucks,,, doesnt matter. Yes might have a bad solenoid or wiring but at the end of the day with all the complaints about them is it necassary to have the breaks on there?

I would not recommend towing without the brakes working correctly, they are put there for a reason and it's not just to protect your investment.

All it takes is one accident to realize how important they are to safer towing, last but not least they may be required by law depending on your state.

Not trying to tell you what to do, but just think how you would feel if something happened to someone you care about because someone else didn't have brakes on their trailer.

By the way we would love to help you, give us a call at the toll free number below anytime.

I was def considering everyone around me including myself. Safety ALWAYS first, but if there is a constant issue with these type of systems why build them? To me the brakes on my trailer have never worked properly... guess im just looking at the cost of haveing my rig gone through thourghly , and what the costs may be? Any quotes for a new solenoid and what I should expect to pay????? To get it fixed ?

If there's a constant problem with yours, well, there's a problem with them. Fix it or get it fixed. Don't let frustration get in the way.

Cost depends on what's wrong and where you get it done (most places are reasonable, some aren't). Just for reference, an entire new surge mechanism assembly is about 150$ retail parts cost, although from what you wrote, it doesn't sound like that's the problem.

Were you able to tell what made the loud bang you mentioned? What repairs have you had done to the trailer?

Check the States law on loads that must have breaks for the places you go.

I have and will pull trailers that dont have breaks ....... Been doing it all my adult life.
