Info needed on 04 Ram Injection 250

New to the site and glad to find a site for a loyal Evinrude/Johnson user. I have recently purchased a brand new 2004 250hp Ram Injection Ficht motor. By brand new it is a motor I know the history of, everything under the cowling has been replaced by BRP at the factory and has not be run since other than the testing.

I will be putting the motor on a '95 23' proline c/c boat. I will be using the boat primarily for scuba diving in the Gulf of Mexico. So it will usually have a pretty heavy load. Any suggestions on a prop reccommendation to give good performance and fuel efficency. Top end speed is not a huge factor since it is rare when conditions will allow WOT speeds. I am more interested in mid range speeds and efficency.

Another question I have is oil. Can the engine be set for different oils like the E-tecs? If so my inclination is to set the engine for HD 50 and use the HD100. My thinking on this is use the high grade oil with a lower settting for added protection.
Am I thinking correctly on this?

Has anyone had much experience with the DI motors and if so what is your thoughts on the motors?

Has the gas sat inside the motor for all that time or was the motor "winterized' properly and a fuel stabilizer used?

How old - not how many hours - is the water pump? Have the tech glue the pressure release grommet into place, just like they do with the early E-TEC V-6 motors. Install E-TEC 250hp thermostats and use the Champion QC10WEP plugs indexed correctly for longer life.

No oil settings on a FICHT DFI motor, use XD-50 or better yet if you want, the synthetic XD-100.

Thanks for the response SEAHORSE. My thoughts were to go ahead and change the WP even though it is "new" it was installed in May of '05. Just for my info, what is the advantage of the Etec stats?

What is your opinion of the Ficht DFI motors? Any prop suggestions?

Anybody have any input as to what prop choice will work best for my rig?

A 15" or 17" Rebel would be a good starting point. Since you load it down with gear, prop for close to 6000 rpm with an average load. That will give you enough power to keep from lugging the motor on a hot day with a load of tanks aboard.

Does the Rebel come in different diameters for the different pitches? The only good prop shop is not a big fan of the Rebel so he is pushing a Michigan prop on me and not a lot of good info on the Rebel. From what I read the Rebel will come closer to giving me the performance I need.

the Rebel is designed for heavy rigs used offshore and for economical cruise.

Propping is an art, so much trial and error is done. Some props work better than others for certain boat hulls and applications. Try as many as you can.
