    Question from a Newbie

Hey all, I have a general question about e-rudes. I'm looking at a Ranger with a 150HO (year 2004), but I'm a little worried due to all the things I've heard about e-rudes. I don't want to start a big bashing thread but wanted to know if these motors are worth it or if I should consider something else. This would be my first boat, so I'm trying not to get screwed on the deal ($15k).
    Thanks in advance.
    David

If you heard bad things about that 2004 model, it was not from trained technicians, more likely from other boating forums where misinformation runs rampant.

It wasn't on a 2004 model, I was just more concerned with Evinrudes in general, just seems like they have more problems than most brands. I know they will all have problems at some point, but just wondering if Evinrudes are generally dependable by comparison.

And Chevies have more problems than Fords but the worst of all is the Dodge. The 2004 is a BRP motor not an OMC based motor. They run pretty well.

Like with anything used, have a trained tech check it out completely first and ask for a copy of the engine computer report.

What if I don't know a tech? It's a pretty reputable dealer (former Elite series pro Mark Burgess gets his boats from them).

Minimum on a DFI motor no matter who makes it, compression test, history report pulled from the computer. Extra $$$ few to the tech to run the serial # to check for warranty claims.
