    Power Pack and/or Stator Question

Besides the obvious...other than the motor will not run. What are some signes of either the power pack and or the stator having issues?

Is it possible that the motor will run great until WOT and then lose power?

What do you think about doing a Leak back test on a 2 stroke? Compression is very good across the board.

    Still chasing lost rpm's & hp. 2001 Johnson 200hp.

    Your thoughts...

    Thanks

What altitude you running it at mostly? Are you running e-15 fuel? Have you had the orifices replaced for high altitude? Are the bottom butter flies linkage lock down bolts tight? Has WOT timing been verified?

Re: Power Pack and/or Stator Question (ChampioNman)

Yeah, We have E-fuel. Mostly running at 2150 ft in elevation. Spend a lot of time at Roosevelt Lake. Yes, WO timing has been verified and burrerflies have been sync'd and linkage checked. Motor has been scoped and is in EX condition internally. Also hull has been checked and is straight. And if you mean the reeds, no they have not been replaced.

I have even had boat weighed then deducted the equipment weight, etc. and dry hull weight is dead on. So no water logging.......

I personally think it is part a E-fuel power loss isue and after than who knows. Thats why I was asking about symptoms of power pack and/or stator issues.

E fuel will not give the performance of E-free fuel. Don't really think your motor is sick but a victim of crummy fuel.

    Yeah,

I suspected that that is part of the issue all along.

Still looking for some info on my original question though. Just for my edification.

Re: Power Pack and/or Stator Question (champ193pro)

Yes you can perform a leakdown test but for safety sake have a repudible shop perform it as you are injecting a good amount of air into the cylinder and manually moving the crank with a breaker bar. One slip and it could lead to serious injury. If you can find a shop in your area that performs Dynometer testing that would be the ticket to possibly find your missing RPM's.

I have had the dno check done and all was good. Just keep getting the question....have you done a leak down test. I read that it should be done because the comp test in ot conclusive and others say it is not needed at all. Humm. Must be some kind of decoder ring stuff.

Re: Power Pack and/or Stator Question (champ193pro)

If you hold your compression tester on the cylinder after warming the engine to operating temp, crank it up to its highest reading. Watch the gauge to see how fast it falls. This is not a REAL leakdown test but will give you a bit of an idea of the condition of the rings. The only true way to check leakdown is by injecting air into the cylinder, and moving the piston up and down in the cylinder. You then watch the gauges and watch for leakdown or escaping air. But as stated earlier, you are putting upwards of 150 PSI of air into the cylinder, on false move with the breaker bar and you could get seriously injured.

Re: Power Pack and/or Stator Question (champ193pro)

If you have never done a leakdown, it is rather tricky on the 2 stroke motors, and, can have varying results dpendant on temprature and lubrication....:) If you know someone that can do it for you that knows what is going on, let them do it. Not to mention a GOOD leakdown tester is $$$
