    Equinox as tow vehicle

    Hey guys,

I have a 2005 Equinox front-wheel drive and just purchased a 2009 Stratos 294XLE w/ 200 merc, single axle trailer. Will this be enough to tow the boat? I'm from Ohio and not driving cross country, maybe at MOST 1-2 hour from the house. (5 mins from Erie but fishing Sandusky BASS Open 2.5 hrs away)

    Thanks guys!

With the towing package, you are only rated at 3500lbs maximum. I'd say you would be far better off with something rear drive and rated around 5000lbs.

I'd be afraid it will push you through a stop sign on a rainy day.

1700lbs dry weight for the boat + 225lbs for a tank of gas + 400lbs for the motor +1000lbs for the trailer + 175 lbs for batteries puts you at your max towing weight. No oil, no TM, no fishing gear, no cooler, no spare tire etc., etc..

Agree. short wheelbase's don't tow well also.

Thanks for the reply guys. Only have that and a 99 ranger 2x4 extended cab, so the ranger would be better off?

I'd expect so unless it's a manual transmission. The clutches in Rangers don't hold up well to towing.

I had one towing a nitro 482 ( 17'8) with a 150 and it didnt seem to have the jam to tow and stopping was sometimes interesting. So I went and bought a silverado instead

You are definitely at the edge for your Equinox and I assume that you have trailer brakes. On the plus side, where you live is dead flat. On the downside you might have trouble getting traction to get up the ramp. I towed a Triton V176Mag with a 02 FWD Escape and it was OK but my 09 4WD Escape with more hp is far better. Even then I don't think I would tow your Stratos with it.
