    150 XP Idle problem

My 1990 150 XP is giving me fits. It starts great and runs good except at idle....it just refuses to idle around. I've rebuilt the carbs, changed all the recirc valves, powerpack, timer base, and all the ignition coils. It also shudders a little on slow acceleration. What is the likely list of problems?

Compression check, carbs must be closed at idle, check idle pick up timing, sync and link carbs and timing. Correct spark plugs?

Should have mentioned those as well.

The compression is from 100-108..the carbs are closed at idle, link and sync is good. Spark plugs are the required Champion plugs.

700-750 out of gear....550-600 in gear

If I pick up the idle using the stop screw on the timing arm to get my idle up to 700 or so where it idles decent I can't use the fast idle lever on my controls....it will come up but then I can't push it back down to put it in gear....something is pushing up against it. (Cable adjustment might be the reason???)

OK, If I were you I would get a good OEM service manual. I think your idle timing is set to low and also the sync and link is certainly off. It's not complicated if you have the right manual to follow. It sounds like you need to reinstall the throttle cable as the manual indicates. I have seen motors like yours in just the shape yours is in. Not a big problem to fix just adjustments.

If you can't run with the big dogs, just stay on the porch.
