    Trailer Brakes Heating Up Wheels

I have a 2009 X3 and I have noticed that when I pull the trailer out of the water or back in to load, they sound like the brakes are still engaged. Also, after trailering for 10 miles or so the wheels on the axle with the brakes are a lot hotter than the axle in the front.

Has anyone had similar issue and what was the solution?

    Thanks!

It's normal for the brake axles to be hotter. The brakes convert your motion into heat.

What do you mean it sounds like the brakes are still engaged?

There should be a reset switch on the under part of the tounge some where. Mine has a button I push to reset it.

When I'm either backing it in to load the boat, I have heard a squalling type noise. I have heard it going forward and in reverse. The wheels aren't locked up but it sounds like the caliper's are not releasing completely.

    Thanks!

    Disc brakes?

Yes, they have calipers.........so that would be disc brakes I believe.
    Thanks,

After fueling I parked for a while and let them cool. Headed back for home and they were cool once I got home. Headed back for the lake and all was fine. Yesterday same scenario. Hot for 5 miles, still hot for 5 more then a little better. It's driving me crazy. It is a 2008 Marine Master tandem axle on a 196 Triton.

Re: Trailer Brakes Heating Up Wheels (196 Bobby)

It sounds like the same problem that I am having. My tournament schedule is winding down and I am taking mine back to the dealer this week.

I called Marine Master and they told me to check for a kinked hose/tube at the tongue break away and to check the break release button. I knew that was not the problem but I checked it anyway.

These trailers have 2 year warranty according to Marine Master but when I asked if this problem would be covered, he said that I would have to contact the supplier of the brake caliper. I hope this won't be a big goose chase!
