To try and change from surge drum brakes to disc brakes. I am going to replace the brakes for the second time now. Just wondering if it would be worth it and what would be involved?

Dics brakes will last longer, you'll need to install an actuator for disc brakes also. I think its worth it..Drum brakes usually only last a year or two.
I've never had disc trailer brakes, so I can't speak for them.
I refurbished my drum brakes 3 years ago with the marine (saltwater) grade Galv-x units. They are more expensive, but they are all galvanize & stainless steel spring etc. designed for saltwater use. I figure they should last a lifetime since they will only see freshwater.
btw... the brakes I removed were the original & actually still worked OK & didn't looks too bad for being over 10yrs old. I only replaced them because I was going through everything after I bought the rig to make sure all was OK before I hit the longer hauls. The new ones definately made an improvement, but again, the 10yr old ones were still working.
I've had pretty good luck with the drum brake systems over the years. I bleed/replace the fluid every other year and keep an eye out for leaks. Works for me.
