    trailer lights

I run an 04 trail blazer with a lowe Boat trailer, I have been round and round trying to repair my light situation... my blinkers and breaks work all the time but the running lights continue to blow the trailer prk fuse in the blazer// it seems when I just plug in the lights without dropping the hitch on the ball things are fine and the running lights will work, but the moment i put the hitch on the ball and turn on my vehicle lights it blows the fuse in the vehicle. Could This be a bad ground and if soo will it bee on the trailer or the vehicle. I have checked the white wire on the trailer and it seems grounded to the trailer /// I have thoughts on just rewiring the entire trailer but dont know if i want to get into that type of work . If I do decide to rewire the trailer i might go with all LED, and buy a kit... But right now the wires are all ran through the trailer itself im worried about getting a the new wire through the trailer,, and not having to just zip tie it or redneck rig it. I want professional as i can get.... any suggestions ??? much appreciated

Sounds like a wire on the trailer is grounded that ain 't supposed to be, and when you connect the trailer via the ball, it makes a short circuit and blows the fuse.

Check the trailer for chafed wires/missing insulation

You could use a meter and check each wire to ground without the trailer hooked up and find the one that is causing the problem

If connecting the ball affects anything, it sounds like your white wire isn't doing the job.

Sometimes it's better to just use a truck side connector with some alligator clips and a battery to power the trailer so you don't keep blowing fuses while you try to figure out the problem.

Most commonly, you'll see a problem with a side marker light fixture or wire, then next most often you'll have a problem where the main TL wire passes in and out of the frame.

With TL circuits, there will often be two brown wires in the harness, one going to each side of the trailer, giving you two separate circuits. I usually try to find a good spot and cut one of those wires. Now you can power each side of the trailer separately to isolate the problem. Just solder and wrap the wire when finished.
If you have integrity, nothing else matters. If you don't have integrity,
    nothing else matters.

You describe my problem exactly. I had to pull the wires from the trailer and found about a 4 inch piece that had the insulation rubbed through. There were three more places on the wires that looked like it had started to rub through the insulation as well. I took out the rubbed place and replaced it with an insulated piece. I then reran the wires through the trailer, but put it in plastic tubing before running it through the trailer.
I am thinking that this will solve my problem from now on and may help you solve yours.
    Good Luck!!

    Re: trailer lights (teamplayer)

Thanks guys for all the ideas, i do agree its prob a bad ground or an bare wire. i have messed around wiht the wiring a lil bit now but still no luck, just thinking about either buying a kit and trying this on my own or contacting an local rv or marina and getting a quote to see what it would cost// i want a professional type job and dont know if im quite good enough. when u pull those wires through ur traler frame whats the best way to do that use an wire to push through and then pull the new wire kit back though ?? also what do u guys think a repair shop would charge to rewire a trailer.

My fuse blew when my shaky hands let the exposed nub on the trailer wire hook up, touch the exposed nubs on my truck hook up (flats). I bought a five pin adapter (round)and I don't have that problem anymore.

On rerunning wires. ... attach new wires (correct colors and length) to old ends at trailer break lights. Then pull out old ones from tongue . (Add extra wire for side lights, pull extra out at side light holes) IMO

under my colorado when I had it, there was a little black box the trailer light harness for the truck ran through. I had this same issue happen and it was this box. went to car quest and got a new one problem solved . plus it was plug and play. f course I ruled out trailer wires first before I found it.

After fighting my lights every year for several years, I replaced the whole jumbled up mess from where it plugs into my trucks harness, plugs, wires, and all new lights with LED's.

Spent about $150 or so at the local auto parts store, and a casual afternoon of work. Money and time well spent in my book.

The old wires were a patchwork of every color, patched together, taped, rubbed raw, corroded, screws rusted, lights filled with water, just a plain old mess from every owner over almost 20 years.

Now everything is properly color coded, sealed, stainless hardware, plastic grommets, shrink tubed, works properly, and lights up like a Christmas tree.

It's not a hard job, just time consuming. I soldered every connection, and shrink wrapped them. Drilled the holes out bigger to fit plastic grommets where the wires came through the frame, Sealed behind my lights and around them with clear silicone to keep water out.
Just used the old wires to pull through the new wire.

I used the wireing diagram I found posted in one of the forums here.
