    Boat trailer registration question.

I got a dumb question for ya. I am coming up on a year of owning my boat and i got my first letter from the Texas Dept. of Transportation stating that i need to re-new my registration tags on my boat trailer. They are $45 dollars. To me this seems very expensive considering my parents have two trailers, (one being a 17ft flat bed and the other being a cattle trailer) that they pay $6 each for new tags each year. I know they have farm tags on them but why on earth would regular trailer tags and farm trailer tags have a $40 difference in cost?

Next question, i will be moving out to my parents farm in the next couple of years (they are going to sell me and my wife a 30 acre piece of the farm to build a house on). Can you get your boat trailer tags changed to farm tags?

Farm tags are cheap, but the vehicle has to be used for farm purposes only. Not likely with a boat trailer.
If you have integrity, nothing else matters. If you don't have integrity,
    nothing else matters.

Boat trailers in Ma are based on weight. Most guys are paying $60-100. And they expire 11/30

Yes that is right, there is a $40 difference. I just registered mine again this month and it was $49.50. It goes by weight of trailer plus the load you put on the trailer. My trailer weighted 1300 lbs with a 4000 lb payload. No you will not be able to put farm tags on a boat trailer. Plus if you have farm tags on a vehicle or flat bed trailer, you better be using it for farm use, the fine you will get will be more than the $40 you save.
