My 2005 tandem marine master trailer back starboard side tire hub blew out the other day and then blew out the tire within seconds. Hub is ruined. Tire basically almost fell off and was just wobbling and dragging within seconds of the blow out. I was almost home and made it to my driveway. I am lucky it didnt catch on fire or melt my fiberglass on the trailer. It did rub on the inside of fiberglass a little and the inside rim of the tire rim is shredded.
How does this happen without warning? I thought the oil bath hubs were supposed to turn milky when they are low or something.
Can i fix this on my own with my limited mechanical knowledge? I am thinking i need new surge brakes, new spindle, hub, and obviously a new tire and rim. Any one see anything else from the pics?
Suggestions?
Also does insurance normally cover this type of stuff? I have a $500.00 deductible. Will I be over $500 in repairs?
On a positive note we wacked some spotted bass on Lake Russell. The drive home was a little more than i bargained for. Not a great start to my Christmas Vacation.
