    Trailer clunks when taking off

Triton 2004 tr20x trailer. Brakes seem to be working when I stop fine. But when I take off there's no resistance and slams the pin forward. Is this the inside shock? Where should I start looking? From reading other posts this things don't seem to last long. Maybe I should just buy the whole unit. Just got this boat so new to this

It is the release of the surge brake. Just ease forward when starting from a dead stop until it is out then give her the gas. I don't think it is anything to worry about.

Are you sure the brakes are working??? Pull the electrical connections on the tow vehicle and trailer apart and try and back up. If you can back up with the wiring disconnected then your brakes are not working and this is causing the clunking noise when you take off. It can be the shock, but I'm betting the brakes are not working and causing the actuator to travel more than it should.

Yes they will lock up backing up. So may it's the shock. Thanks for the replies. Was thinking the brakes are really worn for the pin to move all the way back.

They will also lockup when plugged in backing up a hill fast. If I pull forward and then go slow it's o.k.

Hope you mean the pin moves all the way back when your electrical plugs are plug in and you are backing up, that is what they are suppose to do. Under normal braking, those pins should not move over half way back. If the breaks are working, it probably is the shock. I had a 96 model with the same set up as yours and the shock lasted 6 years and I had to replace it.
