    Picking up Low Speed Idle 1990 150 XP

    The engine is a 1990 150 XP (150 STLESB)


    I'm having a problem with the engine idling a hair low....I tried adjusting the long screw that's on the timing arm that controls how far the timer base goes back (if that makes sense) The problem is as I turned that screw in it made it so my fast idle lever did nothing and didn't want to clip down anymore.


    I'm struggling to keep the throttle roller from sitting up against the cam and still keep it so the roller is centered with the short embossed mark on the cam follower when the throttle first starts to move.

    Look just above the cam follower plate, there is a knurled knob that adjust the Idle timing. The one on top for the timer base is for WOT timing.

    I saw that one but there is a screw down lower that's listed in the service manual as an idle stop screw or something along those lines.... I used that one. I'll use the knurled screw instead.


    For some reason the knurled knob is screwed all the way to the back of the motor...I expected to see it much closer to the middle of travel. Is that normal?


    It looks like the idle speed is adjusted completely through timing....so if I set my idle timing a 7 deg +/-1 deg and it doesn't idle high enough how do I fix it?
