    prop shaft bearing carrier....

I removed the bearing carrier on a 98 Johnson 150 Faststrike to replace the prop shaft seal and carrier O rings. The carrier is only going back in so far and feels like it's being stopped by something. Am I missing an installment trick???

More than likely you're hitting the backside of the reverse gear. If the case is off the motor, tilt it nose down and try it. If it's still on the motor, tilt it up as far as possible and retry. You'll eventually get it to go on in. The trick is to get the propshaft as close to vertical as possible.
