Champion trailers with electric brake disable

Hello everyone. I have a champ trailer with a flat five connector. The connector on my truck is a four on top of four. I've heard you can turn on your running lights and plug the 5th pin on the flat 5 in to the hole that has the 12 volts for the running lights in order to disable the brakes in reverse. Is this true?

That is true, all you need is a 12 volt source, but why not just run a wire to your reverse lights and do it right. It's an easy job and well worth while.
