    Trailer Height Formula!!

There are 2 threads about finding the right trialer height for towing, I was one of the posters. Here is how you find the correct height:

Measure reciever hitch height: On level ground measure from the ground to top of hole(box hole)= A Exp...20 inches

Measure trailer coulper: On level ground measure from ground to bottom of coupler. Coupler= B Exp...17 inches.

    Subtract A-B= C...C, correct hieght. A20-B17=C3,,,,You would need a 3 inch drop.

For odd C number get as close as you can!! I found this on etarilers and it worked for me and my trailer. My trailer was 2 1/2 inches to high.

OK, that makes sense, sorta. I thought the trailer should ride level or at the most 1" high at the tongue. Using your formula if my receiver measures at 20" and the trailer 17" and I use a 3" drop hitch, what about when I connect the two and the weight of the trailer causes the back of my truck to drop an inch or so? Then my tongue would be too low.

Andrew, I really don't know about when you add trailer to truck. I used this formula because I knew My boat was to high. When I hook up to my truck it does drop some but not not enough to make it very unlevel.

The key is getting as close to leve as possible!!

I was gonna post this also, the only other suggestion I was gonna make, was have somone who weighs about 140lbs or so stand on the bumper. That should make for a very close estimate after that.
