Why do some boat trailer have them and other don't. My trailer has them and there starting to rust out. So am thinking of just cutting them off, when I redo my trailer. I guess I should call them guides instead of side bunks. What do you guys think?

They sure make it nice in heavy current, or on windy days. I would look into replacing them, unless you really never use them.
So there better to have then to not? Why are some trailers built without then, I have noticed a lot that dont have them?
It depends a little on your trailer. I had them on my old trailer and they were absolutely worthless because they were too low. Watch how high your side bunks are when trailer is backed in water. Mine were far below the level of the boat, so provided nothing useful. I ordered my new trailer with the vertical guide-on pipes. They stick up enough that they actually guide the boat as you are getting on the trailer.
