    Do I have Hub Problems?

I have a 1985 25 HP Evinrude model number E25RCOS serial number E0513774. While pulling my daughter on a tube yesterday, it seemed like a clutch slipping in a car. I would lose speed while the engine continued to rev. I also noticed a rumbling sound and the motor seemed to shake slightly. At first I thought it was just cavitation but it only happened under a load. When I backed all the way off the throttle I was able to go again. No work has been done to this motor since bought new. It has been sitting for about 10 years until about a month ago. I think I read somewhere that there is some kind of clutch set up in the hub. Could this be my problem? I have a 1978 35 HP Evinrude sitting here that I know nothing about except that the motor was under wated and won't run. Could the lower units be swapped out? The model and serial numbers on that motor are not on it anymore...at least I can't find them.

Sounds like you have spun the hub on your prop. Find a prop shop or take it to a local repair shop the prop people pick them up regularly. They can press you in a new one.

<<<<<<Does that mean I can change the prop and be ok? I have another prop. I could swap them out while the old one is repaired? Thanks for replying.

Yes you can swap props. Also you can make a mark on your prop and hub. When you apply power and it slips the marks should not line up if the hub is spun.
