Lower Unit for 1999 Johnson 225HO

It looks like I might need a new gearcase for my 1999 Johnson 225HO since I hit something this past Saturday and bent the shaft. It is on a 1994 Stratos 201 ProXL. Should I stick with a Lightning gearcase or go to something else?

If it was me I would run the standard case on it... Probably be little faster...:) Gearcaseman on here is who you need...best prices around...

If the shaft being bent is the only problem, just straighten it and keep going. Otherwise, your damage estimate will dictate which direction to go. The S.E.I. cases are in the 875.00 range right now and doing pretty well. Especially when you consider the warranty they give.

Well it looks like the case itself is damaged on the iniside and there has been some damage to the gears so a new unit might be the best bet. Will the SEI case perform as well as the lightning or will I lose speed? If the performance stays the same I would definitely like the make that switch!

It has a different profile than the Lightning. Give Eddie a call and see what he can do for you.

That would be me. I don't think you will see any speed difference by going to an S.E.I. unit from the H.O. 1.86:1

Eddie got me an SEI unit when my lightning cased went down and it has been fine. I can see maybe a 1mph difference in speed but it is marginal. I would go with the SEI and give a Eddie a call, he knows everything there is to know about gearcases. Hence the name gearcaseman
