    Bow String

I am new to archery and bought a compound bow off of a friend. Dropped it off to get a new string put on it at a local shop and they guy has had it for a few weeks now.

How long does it take to have a string made up and installed ?

What is the average cost for a new bow string ?

Should take only a few days from a reputable archery shop. Last time I restrung a bow, it was approx $120

+1.....it should not take long... what brand bow?

If it was a stick bow I could make you one.... I don't mess with wheel bows anymore.

I just had mine restrung and new cables at local archery shop. $100 for material and labor and took 3 days. No way it should have taken that long, they forgot about ya.

It is a Hoyt bow, this guy has had it for 4+ weeks. This is his last week, completed or not the bow is going home with me. I thought it would be nice of me to try and support my local shop. "F" him, it is off to Bass Pro or Cabelas in the future.

I would check with someone with some knowledge about bows in your area before putting Bass Pro Shop in the mix. A true pro archery shop will usually have better quality techs, not saying this is the case every where but most everywhere!
I have seen some bow repairs and new setups come from bass pro shop here that was all messed up.

A good tech with proper set up can build a set of strings and install them in less than 2 hrs...I watched a buddy of mine build a set just this evening in 30 minutes from scratch to servings on ready to go on the bow. You are looking at around $100-$120 that is installed also!

Thanks, I think I found a more reliable shop to go to for future needs. I can't wait to see this guy this weekend. My bow is coming home completed or not.

    Re: Bow String (moto)

all my bows i have had custom strings made for them...shipping and all didnt take bout about 3-4 days....and i put the strings on myself and did all the timing and tuning...a shop shouldnt take more than a week or so at most if its jsut a stock string or "semi custom" as i call them such as Winners Choice..thats about the best off the shelf string you can get

I am not sure where Sutton is but these guys are in Acton. I haven't been there since I bought my bow a few years ago but some of my friends have had good luck with them.

    Re: Bow String (slrh)

buy yourself a press (about $100 or so for a portable), and do all the work yourself. It will definitly pay for itself very quickly.

I do all my own bow work, including making strings, and i can have a set of strings made, installed, and shot in in about 2 to 3 hours.
