I have a 2010 Etec 250HP and everytime I put gas in my boat I put the correct amount of Evinrude Carbon Guard and blue StaBil. On the carbon guard, is that to often to run that product?? Or should I be using it like I am, with every fill up??
Thanks

Good question! I'm hoping a couple of the experts will chime in. I'm doing the Marine Stabil thing, but wondering about the other additives.
Guys?
I'm doing the same as you. OMC Carbon guard, Blue Stabil, Running Shell Premium Gas with nitrogen, and running XD 100 oil. I can tell you I put a new prop on this year and have run 30 gal of fuel thru the motor and the prop inside the hub is still as clean as the day I put it on. But I too wonder if its all needed?
The XD100 has Carbon Guard in it I believe. Can't hurt, but just extra money being spent. I run Marine Formula Stabil and XD100 and things are good so far.
I run exclusive xd-100 and marine stabil every fill up. I also add seafoam 2x a year. No carbon guard ever used. My engine runs like a raped ape and never a problem. Knock on wood!
My prop gets black regardless rather quick. Maybe your on to something. I was always told no need for any decarbing or carbon guard as I use xd100 and the marine stabil. Qlso only run regular 87 octane as recommended. How much carbon guard is needed per x amount of gallons also any downsides to running premium.?

I too would like to hear some info on this. I have a 2004 225ho and have did the decarb deal and run only xd100 and the inside of my prop still gets the soot on the inside like it did when I ran xd50.
I think the shell Premium fuel has alot to do with the clean exhaust. A friend of mine has a Yamaha outboard, and the manual states if you run Shell Premium fuel you don't have to run the yamaha Ring free. I also run Shell Fuel in my truck and cars. And the inside of the exhause pipe on all are as clean as new. I run Premium in my outboard due to the fact I don't want to take any chances on low octane and detonation as I run my 150 on a 2003 allison and I keep it in the higher RPM range.
5500 to 6000 RPM.
93 octane actually produces more combustion deposites. bc your engine runs cooler... and all the additives in it. hence when lead was a subtitute
Top tier gas companies have higher level detergents in 93 octane.
shell for example has 5 times the epa designated detergents in v-power (93) 4 times the epa designated in 89 and 3 times the designated in 87 octane.
Run what you want, I was just sharing what works for me.
