Chech Engine Light and Alarm

As discussed before had a problem with the check engine light and alarm coming on and light staying on. Alarm off after about 10 seconds. Evinrude dealer put computer on, water detected in fuel. Pumped fuel tank empty. Before I did anything else I used a six gallon gas can with non-ethanol gas and sea foam. Cleaned out the fuel filter/separator, and ran engine with this fresh non-ethanol gas. Same problem, check engine light and alarm activates. I noticed that on the emm there is a light on while engine is running. Third light down. HELP!

The third light down being on when running means there is a sensor fault of which code 37 (water in fuel) is one. You did not mention the fuel filter on the motor. If you havn't already make sure it has no water in it and the two wires are not tuching as they go into the filter.

Yes I removed the fuel filter / separator then filled with heet ( red ) then emptied and filled half with sea foam. Then ran engine with fresh non-ethanol gas. Do not remember if the two wires touching when I put the filter back on but will recheck. If the two wires are touching would that cause the check engine light and alarm to activate. And does the code need to be cleared? thank You, Jeff

The water being a better conductor than the fuel is what makes the circuit to activate the fault. If the wires touch it would cause the same fault.

I had the same problem except when I would give my holeshot it would jump on plane then would suck for gas and die and my alarm and light would come on. Took it to shop. technician hooked up the emm and it was reading that I too had water in fuel. he check gas lines and filters then ran test again. same outcome. instead of just throwing money into a new sensor, which i appreciate, he called Evin. They told him to run a different test( not real sure on details) and the outcome was that one of the drives in the emm was shorted out! BPR gave him the name of a company they send emms to to be fixed and he called and shipped mine. they fixed it in a couple days and i had the boat on the water the next weekend! Hadnt had a problem since!!!

Bassmeister, the evinrude dealer said that the codes did not need to be cleared.

Danrude, I separated the wires yesterday. Went out today, started the motor and the check engine alarm and light came on.
