    200 HP DI problems locked up

    Model e200 fplsnf
    # 04985302

    Took my rig out today for the first time this spring. 2002 200 hp BPR ficht. Started great and ran good for five minutes and then locked up. No warnings or signs of problems, never was over ideal speed. Wouldn't start for fifteen minutes and I started it once and it sounds BAD. Has a miss, shake and knock sounds!
    Took the plugs out and all looked good and tryed to look at the piston and didn't see anything bad.
    What to look for next? Dealer can get it in a few days, but it doesn't sound good.
    Can you check compression without hurting anything more?
    Do you rebuild this old of an motor?
    Does it have any value the way it sits?
    Does anyone know of a 200 hp carry over model for sale?

    Did you pull the drain plug on the gearcase and look for lots of metal chips?

    Pulled the plug and found nothing out of the norm. A few fine pieces on the tip, but no big pieces.
    I never put the motor back in gear after it locked up and only ran it for 10 second tops. If there were pieces in the lower unit would it take a bit for them to work there way down to the drain hole?
    Can and should I drop the lower unit and then run the motor to see if I still got the bad sounds coming from the motor?

    Update,
    Took it to the dealer and he pulled the head. Pistion # 2 had the ring pin come off and then the ring moved and broke off in a port. head,pistion,cyclender were all bad. The dealer has to take more apart next week to see if there is more broken.

    Is this motor worth a rebuild? or spend the money and go new.

    Yes if the dealer is a BRP dealer and do the repair then the block should be salvagable. All three port pistons should be replaced. New wrist pin bearings installed. Connecting rod end cap bearings inspected and replaced if neeeded. The dealer should and probably will identify the problem of why it went.

    Do I need to have the other side done also?
    Do I need to worry about a injector failing down the road and then the motor and rebuild is a waist of money.

    The dealer is a BPR dealer. cost $4000 to $5000 to rebuild.

    You are more than likely going to get a reman powerhead for that money. Either short or long block. Ask your dealer.

    No reman powerhead, dealer said mine was going to be used.

    Is there any value of the motor the way it sits?

    i would imagine the lower unit would bring a grand +-?? Always some good used parts, just finding the right buyers is the key.
