    17 HMR

Just bought a 17HMR to replace my Ruger 10/22 that someone stole out of my garage. It sure is a fun, accurate caliber thats great for harvesting rabbits from a long way out and a tack driver at the range.

Anyone shoot a 17? Does any retailers sell bulk ammo? What's a good scope choice?

    Re: 17 HMR (ZL)

Cabelas has ammo for $120 per 500. The Hornady red tip is really accurate. I use mine for prairie dogs. 100 to 150 yards without wind, It is pretty good. I have the marlin bolt action, had a round go off while pushing the bolt forward, that was scarry. I may of hit the back of the bolt, don't know. The round hadn't fully entered the chamber. Just a fluke, I hope.

I shoot the Model 93 by Savage with the accutrigger and thumb hole stock. I'll have to check Cabela's.

I bought one from my brother-in-law. He got it at an auction his bike club put on to raise money for something. It is a Savage model 93R17-FXP, bolt action with a 3x9 scope. I gave him what he paid for which was $300, a few dollars over retail. But hey he is my wife brother. I haven't shot it yet but well one day.

.17 HMR is a neat cartridge. That said, I chose the .22 WMR instead. The VMAX bullets from Hornady are awesome in both .17 and .22 calibers.

I bought a Savage 93 with the acu trigger and the bull barell. THat is one bad little dude. It came from Cabelas with the scope for it and has the laminated wood stock. I love it.

Here's mine. It's a Ruger M77/22 chambered in .22 WMR. 24 inch stainless steel barrel, with a laminated stock. .22 WMR and .17 HMR barrels are interchangeable in less than 5 minutes.
