    19' fiberglass boat/trailer weight

What's the standard glass boat/trailer weigh here? Wife is liking the new Volvo xc60 but it's only rated at 3300. Also considering the Audi Q5, it's rated at 4400. Thoughts?

I don't really think either is a good choice for towing a boat. I'd be concerned you will hit the GCWR with a couple of passengers and gear in the vehicle before you can use the full towing capacity.

We've been towing my brother's 19' stratos with a 2001 Honda pilot without issues. I would expect a tahoe or tundra to be a superior towing vehicle, but am either considering an alternative towing vehicle or perhaps a shorter glass boat. I appreciate the perspective thus far.

My buddy tows his 18ft with a Honda Ridgeline. Seems to handle it pretty well. Just make sure the trailer brakes are working good. It's not the going thats a problem, it's the fast stopping.

First, determine how far you're planning on towing. Your needs will be much different if you have a 2hr pull opposed to a mile or so.

If you pull a 19' fiberglass boat with something like that, please be sure the boat trailer has brakes.....for MY safety! Thanks

just depends how often you use your boat. if you only go to the lake a couple times a year a smaller vehicle would work. if you plan on fishin often better get a full sized truck or suv. control matters more than pulling power, little suvs have little brakes and the trailer will push the light suv around every time you hit a bump or a semi passes you.

aluminum boats are easier to pull if your wife insists on a little vehicle

I tow mine about once a week for 8 months out of the year (80mi round trip to lake & back). Total weight is 2,900 (17ft Skeeter) and it has surge brakes. TOW vehicle is a GMC Envoy rated to tow 5,700lbs and it does great BUT it's a body on frame SUV that weighs 4,700lbs empty. In my case, towing that often for that many miles I don't like to exceed half the vehicle's rating which I am a hair over (100lbs). The reasons being safety, reliability, & performance related...

With a smaller vehicle compared to boat size it is important to consider the weight of fuel gear coolers etc that you may constantly carry in the boat. A 40 Gallon tank of gas alone weighs about 240lbs . Also boat manufacturers don't always include the motor in any weight figure they may give you. If you are looking for a quick way to find boat and motor weight try going to the NADA guide for pricing boats and motors Weights are most often included in their descriptions.
BTW Don't forget to count the weight of the water in the transom. OOPS bad Joke

I would say take $3500 and buy you and older fullsize truck to use as a tow vehicle just a thought.
