When i had a single i would carry an extra hub ready to go so that would be first on my list if i was you.

Next you should always make sure your tire have the right amount of air in them, if you run them low it will cause more heat which is never good.

When you're on long trips ( 2 hrs or more ) when you make a pit stop, walk to your trailer and touch the bearing area to make sure its not burning hot, a little warm is ok as long as it doesn't make you move your hand.

And most importantly DO NOT over greese the bearings, you will blow them out and when you launch your boat you will get water in your bearings that will cause them to fail on you.

I would suggest keeping a basic checklist of things you do each time you are preparing the boat to go out and another for things you do when you return home. I didn't include any motor maintenance but you should also make sure this is being completed timely as well. Here's a few idea's to begin your list...

    Before leaving home -
Check trailer bearings about every 1000 miles for any wear & tear
Check tires for wear or dry-rot, then check PSI (including spare)
Check all lights on trailer and tow vehicle
Check batteries and make sure are fully charged.
Make sure the following items are all aboard:
    Keys
    Life vests
    Tool box
    Xxtra set of wheel bearings
    Fuel additive/oil etc.

    After returning home:
Clean boat (wash/wax if needed) or at least wipe down boat with BBS
Again check battery levels before plugging in to charge
    Remove any trash
Check for any scratches, tears in the upholstry etc... anything that would need to be repaired.

All the above really but also make sure the trailer is level with the right amount of drop or rise on the hitch it will help the trailer from excessive sway ,Ive towed my single axles on trips of 1,200 miles one way and never had an issue,,I look at it this way its two less axles to repack and to maintain,
