Ever Fall Off the boat platform?

OK....every novice gets one really stupid question....

We have always been "IN" the boat; not "ON" the boat in the past. We're wearing our life vests. The Ranger doesn't have a ladder. Hubby has some mobiltiy and balance issues. He's doing ok so far getting up on the bucket stool on the platform. I just think ahead and want a strategy should one of us go over. Ladders don't seem to go deep enough to make it reasonable to pull yourself up with arm strength.

If I was to fall in and could not pull myself out, I would work my way to the stern and stand on the cavitation plate on the outboard. Then while hugging the motor hit the trim up button and take a ride.

It's pretty easy to add a fold up ladder to a bass boat if you think it may be needed. My boat came with a 3 step ladder that is held on with two clevis pins, when you don't need it you pull the pins and stow it away, if needed it only takes a minute to hook it up.

Excellent....that actually WAS our plan! Now I don't feel so stupid if we have to use it. We will use extra caution around the motor; as I understand you can easily cut a body part if you're not very careful. Makes good sense! Thank YOU!!

Sounds like a good idea to me, as long as the outboard is in neutral and TURNED OFF!!!

If your boat has a jack plate there are ladders avalible that bolt on to it . not as ugly and easy to install
