Buying a boat 300 miles from home

I am looking at buying a boat that is 300 miles away from my house. besides test driving the boat, is there anyway I can check the motor and make sure it is good? I have a guy here that I am going to be using exclusively as my marine mechanic but he won't be able to look until I already purchase and have it home. Any suggestions? I am buying from a dealership.

I am in the process of doing the same thing. I did run the serial numbers on the motor to see what the history was. The bank did it for free. The boat and motor that I am looking at still has warranty so that helps a little bit

Yeah, the one I am looking at is a 96 so no warranty. I feel like the guy is super nice, the boat is in perfect shape tho looks like noone has ever been in it. It is really in showroom condition I am talking not even a small tear in a seat NOTHING. It is a 96 fast strike...are fast strikes good motors?

Maybe go buy yourself a compression guage and check compression on all cylinders.

I sold a boat to a buyer that was over 600 miles away. I took the boat to my dealer and had them do a through check just like they were taking the boat as a trade. Sent the info to the buyer and he was happy.

Maybe check to see if a fellow BBC'er is in the area and can give a personal visit to the dealer. We have some folks on here with a wealth of experience.
