    2 stroke oil

Just wondering what the preferred brand was for you fellas running the larger Merc V-6s. I see that Quicksilver makes quite a few brands. I was talking with a buddy of mine that has a Tracker 90 horse and he absolutely won't buy any of the Quicksilver brands due to the price. I thought that paying for the quality would be worth more than a rebuild or having to burn a tax refund on a motor off the rack! Anybody ever use the QS Synthetic oil? I have an old '88 135 in great shape and plan on running the QS brand, just curious as to some of your feedback. thanks for your time.

I have a lot of money invested in my 225 Optimax. I am going to burn an oil I trust. Mercury brand.

Even tho TCW3 oils meet the standards of TCW3 doesn't mean that the quality of their base oil is as good as a higher priced oil.

You can pay a little less now or a lot more later.

I've used Penzoil Premium Plus for years on carb motors and my new Optimax and have had great results. Much better price than others and it's a high quality lube.

Use the Mercury/Quicksilver oil or any reputable name brand oil. Pennzoil is good, so is Quaker State. Amsoil is excellent but is a little pricey as is Klotz.

thank you for your input guys. i might have screwed up when i said that i plan plan on using "QS" oil. i meant Quicksilver and got lazy not spelling it out; didn't even think about "QS" pertaining to Quaker State.

I would use only Evinrude, Yamaha, or Mercury Tcw -3 oils. These three study their oils continuously. All others have to be BIA certified only once. I actually have had a Mercury rep come into a dealership while I was working and perform a fuel/oil test on-site because a SW guide kept complaining about the poor running quality of his motor. The SW guide had blown a power head a couple of months eariler and Mercury replaced it as warranty. After testing and determining the problem to be with the oil, Mercury told him to not use 'cheap oil' as this is what caused the first power head to fail - OIL BREAK DOWN.
The guide said that the Mercury oil cost too much, $2 more a gal, but Mercury said that they would refuse to replace another power head if the other oils were used. I guess it depends on whether you want to spend a couple of $now or hundreds later.

    Re: 2 stroke oil (trashy)

thanks guys, i will go ahead as planned and use the Merc/Quicksilver brand. in fact i picked up a gallon today for $15 at a trade show. last time that happens for a while. will definitely have to check in on the dealers prices. bass pro and cabelas are significantly higher, but in the end compared to all the other "stuff" that is purchased on a weekend outing, its a non-issue! i appreciate the input.

Walmart makes a great TCW3 oil. I have been running it in my HPDI for over 2 years now.

I wouldn't use a synthetic on that old of an engine that hasn't been using it. Seels leakin, especially if it is already running just fine on Quick Silver!!
