My First Bassboat, was it a good deal?

My first boat that I am buying. I have been in plenty of small boats growing up but thought this was way to good of a deal to pass up. What do you think?

1997 Nitro Savage 896, 150 Mercury V6 (Nitro Series), Jack Plate, Tandem Trailer, All the gear (fish locators, depth finder, jump seats, 5 life vests, ski's, tube, tow ropes, standard equipment), everything works, good water pressure, 23p tempest prop, stock prop, very good condition. Needs to have new carpet put in and maybe have the seats redone. I have had it up to 52 (GPS) and felt the chinewalk start but I need more seat time. It porpused pretty bad but I added a Stingray and it helps greatly.

Picked it up from a 1SG in the Army (1 owner), spent 4 years off and on again in storage.

    $10,500

Runs awesome and the trailer pulls as if it were new.

seems to me a little high end for a nitro especially when the carpet and seats need redoing. you can try to do the carpet yourself but it is a pain, new carpet done right 300-500 dollars and seats probably better if able to just get new ones. 52 gps is a little slow for chine walk usually in most boats it comes when it is 60+ mph. If I were you I would see if a friend or a dealer will help ya with the set up also have the compression checked on the engine. as for porpusing badly that is also a seat time issue and set up issue. the stingray is just a real pain if you have to do any work on LU or such also leaves drag holes in cav plate. what height was your rooster tail, what rpms were you at at 52 mph, also how far below your pad is the prop shaft? these are important issues when setting up a boat and it sounds like this one was not set up properly. head to the nitro board and ask a few questions on set up there they will help ya out.

    Congrats on the new boat

If you feel that you got a good deal and are happy with the boat (I can see from your post that you are), then it was a great deal...

If you go to the Nitro board like lkhartwl says, they can help get your boat set up right for best performance

Carpet replacement can be done by you, and if you take your time and don't lose your patience, it will turn out great. I did mine this summer, and I'm really happy with the results, and I've gotten lots of compliments on the look... all for about $200 total cost (Including beer)

Enjoy the ride and let us know how things are going!!!

Used Nitros in the Nashville area are not selling that high for a boat of that age. Not sure why.

I agree; if you think it was a good deal then that's all that really matters. Do take the time to ask about set-up though it will pay off later on.

The seats are in pretty good shape, just the nitro emblem is worn and your typical little holes fro the kids I guess. As far as the carpet, would be nice but not required. I will have to show some pics when I get them.

Runs like a champ and I did not have to drive to get it, gas prices and all. I am in the middle of no where, would cost about $700 to go and buy a boat just to save a $1000

Thanks for the comments guys, I look forward to fishing again. I am originally from Wisconsin/Illinois and have not really fished since joining the Army.

Just wish I could get some good contacts close by that dont want to rip me off on the seats, I think they would make a great improvment even though they are fully functional, just a little faded.

After I read my post it sounded rude. If its a good boat then you will love it. My boat is nothing to brag about compared to some of these guys rigs. But I love it and treat it like a family member I like.

Looks like its going back in storage, just got orders to deploy for a year...

Uncle Sam must have been jealous of the boat...
