    side to side motion

I am beginning to trim up enough to increase my speed...when I am WOT and trimmed up...I started to get a rolling feel, where I lean to the left then lean to the right back and forth (this was after taking my "dolphin" off the motor. What causes this motion, is it normal...have also noticed the front bouncing up and down more when I trim up a lot...is this caused by trimming up too much?

    Thanks!

The first sounds like the beginning of chinewalk. You just have to learn to drive the boat. Seat time will help, there are a couple of articules on here about it. The second is porposing. It is probably caused by trimming to high at too low a speed. What boat/motor you running?

Re: side to side motion (DHunter68)

the up and down motion is a result of trimming up too much....it can be resolved several different ways, but generally, the easiest is to not trim up too much...

the side to side motion is chine walk, and there are a few different cures for this as well.....one is to raise the motor a bit....that should help....the second is just seat time and learning how to drive "through" it...while it will still do it if you leave the wheel striahgt, you can learn how to work the wheel to limit how much you feel it...

    Chinewalking

The motion you are refering to is called Chinewalking. Do a forum search and google search under chinewalking as there are some great articles on here for it.

As seat time is the cure, so is the technique and I know first hand as a non boater that once the boat gets into a bad chine walk it can become VERY dangerous. Until you read the articles and can begin to anticipate this occurance, trim down and slowly let out of the throttle until the "wobbles" go away.

"this was after taking my "dolphin" off the motor."

Which had zero effect on your challenge. With a 115, I'd put them back on! BTW, fins are for enhancing hole shot and slow planing speed, once up, they are not even in the water and therefore can have ZERO effect on the handling of your boat once on plane.

Chine walking is what you are feeling, seat time will help you to learn how to make corrections without even a concious thought about such.

What is happening is that the boat is falling off the "pad" one direction then the other. Some hull designs take a bit more operator input to keep them on that flat pad. All hull designs are different and with different power plants as well.

To stop it, drop yur trim a little, force the bow to dig into a tad more. Then over time, alter your trim to a more ifficient position for the rig. Push yourself a bit at a time. You too wil get the hang of handeling your rig.
