Controls ?

I have a two part project going and have a few questions. I rencently purchased a 1993 Johnson 200 with controls for my boat. At the same time I am working on a project boat with my father. He purchased a 1976 Johnson 85 but his controls are a little rough. Will the controls from my 1993 200 work for his 1976 85? By controls I mean gear box and igniton only (no gauges). Also if control cables (throttle/shifter) are replaced do you use the new or older style. Thanks in advance.

Been awhile since I worked on a 76 85 so need to sleep on this one and dig.Off the top of my old brain can't remember if it is dual control or single. Of course the tribe may chime in.

Not sure what you mean by dual or single but both boxes have the single arm which controls F/R and the throttle with two cables going to the motor. Thanks for the response
