Can you see fish through weeds on SI

I was out with my friend the other day and we were running SI on a 3-5 ft flat that had cabbage and pond weed on it. A few times we saw what looked like a fish return but it was right in the midst of a weed bed. I don't think you can see fish inside of a weed bed on SI, or maybe I'm wrong. Can you see fish inside a weed line?

I would think the fish density would give a stronger return than the weeds, so you may be able to see them. Size would probably matter also. Not sure, just a guess.

If it's behind weeds no. But to the side or in front of or on top yes you can see the fish.
