    Bath Room Remodel

Demoed bath room this past week end. Shocked to see all the water rot and mold on floor and wall studs around the tub area. Gonna cut out wall studs and rip out subfloor and redo. More than I expected, but, it's gotta be done.

I suggest you put 3/4" advantec tongue and groove down for the flooring (subfloor) and use "green" board for the sheetrock, both of these resist water and will withstand any leaks, then fix all leaks. you will not have to do it again!

Good luck! Use the green board around the tub as mentioned to prevent future problems. Then you can finish it off something like this!

Now that is a sweet bathroom. Reminds me of the mans bathroom on Tool Time.

The green board is going to get harder to find, they have replaced it with Blue board. Both have the same qualities, just a heads up...Why not just put up cement board and tile it, it could rain in the house and it wont ever rot again...

Exactly. I gutted one of ours to the studs, cement board floor to ceiling in the tub/shower area. Cement board from floor up 48 inches. Green board from ceiling down 48 inches to cement board. Tub to ceiling 9X13 tiles rest of the bathroom walls floor up 48 inches same 9X13 tile. One important thing, Make sure you put a vapor barrier over the studs, seal it at the bottom and bring it out onto the ceiling joists 12 inches or so. If you don't have a GOOD exhaust fan already installed---- nows the time.
