The BBC Boards allow to load and choose your own avatars. There are some restrictions to the file size, height, and width of the avatar and they can be animated.
You can choose one of the system provided avatars by clicking the button to the left of the image. You can also automatically upload an avatar from your hard disk by clicking the browse button.
Browse to the file that you would like to upload (.gif or .jpeg) and select that file, the path will appear next to the Browse button. After uploading or selecting your avatar you can choose to have a box drawn around your avatar by clicking the Add a cosmetic border to new Avatar button. You can convert your avatar to grayscale (black and white) by choosing the Convert image to grayscale button.
When choosing an avatar please keep in mind that this a family site and select something that is appropriate for all ages and genders. If you don't have an avatar there are resources on the Interenet that have libraries of avatars that are free. Try Avatarity for free avatars - this site will also automatically size them for you.
The size restrictions for uploaded avatars are
- file must be no larger than 70 x 70 pixels
- file size must not exceed 20K
Once you have made all of your selections click on save and you will return to the My Profile menu. You can select avatar again to preview your avatar selection.
NOTE: .gif files seem to work better as avatars in general. When you change your avatar it will become active in all of your past posts automatically.
