    150 evinrude intruder alarm question

I have a 1994 evinrude 150 intruder model E150gler and serial # 603560975. This was the original set up on the same year champion 186. My question is.....does this motor or boat have alarms for over revving the engine? I believe red line on this motor is 5500 and I have consistently run over 5700 up to 5900 and I have never heard any alarms. If it does have an alarm, could it be malfunctioning? Or at what rpm level does the alarm go off?

    thanks

I believe the rev limiter is around 6250 rpms, and it will definately get your attention!! It's not an alarm, it will shut the engine down til it gets below the limiter then wot again till it hits the limiter in VERY quick succession, usually 2-3 times before you can get off the throttle.

Rev limiter is 6100 your power band is 4500-5500. I'd go up one size in prop to get the RPM's back in the ball park. Only 4 alarms on the motor are Low oil, no oil, over temp and check engine.

Is there a way to check to see if the alarm is operable? I notice a little beep right when I turn the key over to start the boat. Is that its test sound off?

Yes that is normal and lets you know the alarms are working. To test each sensor make up a jumper wire and disconnect the tan wire. Connect the motor side wire to the jumper and with the key in the on position touch the jumper to the block, the alarm should sound. You have 5 sensor wires all tan in color. One on each cylinder head, one on the oil tank sender, one on the VRO harness and one on the vacuum switch.
