    Splines on Johnson v4 and v6

    Are they the same guys looking to buy a prop and guy said he thought v4 splines were smaller than a v6 its a raker 24''

    ****Quick update, looks like there is some V4's with 15 splines so take a look for your specific motor using HP and Year. May be worth just to remove your existing one just to make sure.


    Hi there, here is a link which provides the specs on Johnson motors, looks like the V4 use 13 splines and the V6 use 15 splines.

    I have a V6 225 HO and it has 15 splines as the database suggests.

    V-4 gearcases have 13 splines, and the V-6 gearcase has 15... There are, however, V-4 motors with a v-6 gearcases. I know - I have one. Best thing to do if you're not sure is to count them, or cross match the part number off your current prop against the part numbers of known 15 spline or 113 spline props. They are NOT interchangeable.

    You can also post the part number of your prop here and someone will tell you what it's for.
