I was and presently not a big sweet tea drinker. I know, thats blasphomey coming from a southerner, but oh well......and this is gonna sound stupid simple, but it tasted good to me.

My mother used to use the Lipton tea bags ( I think 2-4 per gallon, depending on how strong you want it). Boil them in a pot of water, pour a cup of sugar in a gallon pitcher, add the water you boiled the tea in and fill it up. There ya go.

I had a friend that made hers the same way you make Kool-Aide - 2 cups of sugar to a gallon!!! That stuff would make your teeth ring! I like about a cup and a 1/4.

The hardest part is getting the strength of the tea to your liking...

All I drink is sweet tea so I am a pro at it. Here is the Real Deal sweet tea recipe!!
Put two family size Lipton tea bags in your coffee maker where you would put the filter and coffee, (you don't need a filter cause the tea bag is the filter) fill it up with water and turn it on. After it gets done poor the tea in a one gallon pitcher and mix in 2 and a 1/2 cups of sugar to the hot tea to help melt the sugar. Then fill with water and mix well. Put it in the fridge and let it cool for a couple of hours then poor it in a glass of ice and you have some real deal sweet tea.

It gets sweeter the longer it sits. I really like it the following day and don't have to add any ice because its already cold.

You might try 2 cups to start with if you are not a big sweet tea drinker, I personally cant drink tea with less than 2 cups of sugar to a gallon, I think its unsweet tea with only one cup of sugar and its disgusting Lol!

The one thing ya'll all missed id adding a pinch of baking soda. It takes out all the bitterness and makes the flavor superb.
You tea should be dark like maple syrup colored, not a light golden colored.
    I hope it helps.
    Don't forget the lemon slice!

It is all about the tea... use a tea that does not use pekoe leaves... these are slightly bigger leaves and they contain the bitterness you may find in some batches of tea.

The smaller leaves are the most tender and have the least bitterness...

Tetley does not use any pekoe leaves.... Lipton and Luzianne do...

If you need a quick tea fix, McDonalds has really good sweet tea. It is the best tea around besides homemade.
