It seems like I always have line twist on my spinning reels.
What do you guys use to eliminate this?

Point your reel at the spool ( rod tip ) and watch which way your line take up goes .
Clock wise or counter clockwise, and then watch the spool of line and have the line come off the same way it is going on your reel spool.
And for any line that is already twisted or gets twisted by certain lures. All you have to do is start trolling and ( with NO lure on, let all your line out ) and troll for a few minutes. Then reel up all the line, it will take the twist out.
Good luck

That is good info. on the trolling part. I follow the spooling in the same direction technique but i think it is how i tie my line on the reel that turns the line.

I always spool up them go out in the yard and pull off a few cast worth of line across the grass and then reel it up with the line between my fingers. It seems to take any twist out.
Thanks Ron, Good tip![]()
the line should come off the filler spool counter clockwise. it took me a while to figure this out. once i figured it out i placed a piece of duct tape on my filling station and drew arrows pointing counter clockwise to remind me.
Just saw this post, here is 2 easy way that will avoid line twist and they work.
Lay you spool on the floor doesn't matter which side is up, run through the eyes and tie on reels. Take you rod and gently place the tip of the rod on the ceiling and apply just enough pressure to put a slight bow in the rod. Fill the spool, the rod tip against the ceiling doesn't allow the line to rap or loop around the tip of th rod, which is what causes the line twist. After filling, remove the spool and place it in a coffee cup of hot water for about 5 minutes, this will relax the line and it will come off the reel smooth and with no twist.
Second option, run the line through a big thick phone book!![]()
I hate putting line on a spinning reel and these two options work everytime!![]()

I always just used the phone book.......
Daiwa / St. Croix / Abu Garcia / Sufix / Humminbird / Motorguide
T & H / Power Pole / BlueWater / Loc-R-Bar / Bravo 1 / MercMonitor
So it dosen't matter how it comes off the spool as long as you run it
through the phone book "correct "![]()
I have started spooling like a baitcaster, with a dogbone style spooler held between my legs and the line coming off of the spool vertically. I never have line twist. Close you bail by hand after you cast, pull line after you flip the bail against the drag, and you twist problems will be minimal. Hope this helps, Dennis S.
When spooling up the reel, add a spray or 2 of KVD's Line and Lure. This product will not eliminate line twist, but it definitely helps relax the line. Virtually eliminates any coils spooling off the reel. Works well on all lines and they even have a salt water formula. If the line starts to act up, just add a couple of sprays and all of the kinks go away.

I use "REEL MAGIC" how does this compare to KVD?

I use Reel Magic too...but I was always under the impression that Reel Magic is like a 'Reel Oil' for lubrication...and KVD is a line conditioner??

The best way to eliminate line twist on a spinning reel........use braid!!!!!!
Tie a 5' fluorocarbon leader or 20 or 30 pound braid and forget about twist...
However, if you insist on mono or fluoro, I just spool it vertically and then let it out behind boat before using..
Good luck!!!!![]()

Pull out a long cast plus 5 yards from the spool of line across the front yard. Cut it off, attach to reel spool and reel up between two fingers for tension.

Reel magic is an oil based product that will eventually wear out your line and cause line breaks. KVD is a conditioner. It will penetrate the line and cause it to become more supple

+1
I have always just dropped the spool in the lake, and start winding. Also fun to watch it paddle away from the boat make a u-turn and come back to you. Steer it to the back of the boat and surprise your fishing partner.Fun for the whole family.
It doesn't take much to keep me entertained.
