This is a re-post from something I posted on the Ranger board. I thought it might apply to other makes of boats also.
The Problem: losing one of the ratchets that tightens the cover and being faced with spending at least $80 for a new pair because you can't buy just one. Additional problem: even if you found cheaper ratchets, how to attach them to the motor bracket since Ranger uses a metal "disc" it bolts to the ratchet to insert in the bracket (see pic of Ranger ratchet)?
The solution: for around $23 buy a 2 x 4 Tie Down Ratchet from Tractor Supply (or Harbor Freight online) and use a carabiner clip through the ratchet's mounting hole to clip it onto you motor bracket. Works like a charm and the ratchets are actually better than my Ranger originals.
Extra bonus: When I drive off and forget to detach the ratchets they won't fall off!
