    Cooler Cleaner

What does everyone use to clean the cooler compartment on their boats. What do you guys use for the smell and the mildew with out using harsh chemicals?

50% Ammonia/water mixture, then let it air out. Works for livewells too and is safer for the fish than bleach.

Don't use both at the same time, though, as they produce hazardous fumes when mixed.

I thought bleach would neutralize faster than the Ammonia. It's what is used to sterilize aquariums and what they use to sterilize salt water from the ocean before they put it in holding tanks at the saltwater wholesalers. They just aerate it for a day before putting it in the tanks.

For the part about smell, I use FeBreze. Spray it on, let it dry, odor goes as it dries. Works well for me. Your milage may vary.

I use bleach and water for first wash, rinse, then simple green, rinse. Simple green is biodegradeable and it makes me feel better to use that on cooler and livewells!
